Sexually assaulting US woman: Jail term cut

Manama : The Supreme Appeals Court reduced the jail term of a man convicted of sexually assaulting a servicewoman in the US navy.

He was given three years behind bars instead of his initial ten years imprisonment.

It’s alleged that the defendant sexually abused the American woman on a beach after luring her to his office.

Court files indicated that the woman approached the Bahraini man to rent a jet ski.

“I was shocked when he suddenly began feeling my body parts and kissing me.

When I tried to leave, he pulled me inside one of the rooms, took off my swimsuit and knocked me down,” the victim said in her statement to the Public Prosecution.

“He wanted to rape me, but eventually he let me go when I screamed for help. When my husband saw me in a panicked state, he enquired and I told him what happened,” she added.

The accused was arrested on the scene after four hours of committing the alleged crime.

The defendant was earlier cleared of any wrongdoing by the High Criminal Court, which deemed the evidence provided against the defendant insufficient.

However, the Public Prosecution contested its ruling, insisting that the defendant is guilty.
