BOC set for fourth Annual Medical Conference

ManamaThe Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) will have an active role today when the Arabian Gulf University’s Fourth Annual Medical Student Conference gets underway at Al Jawhara Centre for Molecular Medicine, Genetics and Inherited Disorders in Salmaniya.

Featuring a new slogan ‘Sports Medicine’, this year’s conference organised by the university is under the patronage of Lt. General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa the Chairman of the Supreme Council for Health.

The opening ceremony will include a speech by BOC General Secretary Abdulrahman Askar, while BOC Sports Medicine Centre director Dr Khalid Al Shaikh emphasised his centre’ preparations to take part in the conference.

Dr Khalid said the centre will be present at two workshops during the conference, in addition to setting up its own section at the venue to promote the Nasser bin Hamad Scientific Research Award in the field of sports.

Anti-Doping specialist Zaynab Anwar will also be speaking at one of the workshops on the threats of doping and its influence on the athletes health.

On his part, BOC’s Sports Training and Development Centre Director and international instructor Nabeel Taha is to present a seminar on psychological influence on injured athletes and positive psychology over the coming two days.

Besides the BOC, the conference has received a sponsorship boost from Qatar’s specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital Aspetar, Salmaniya Medical Centre, Bahrain Defence Force Royal Medical Hospital, King Hamad University Hospital and College of Health Sciences.
