Bahrain cabinet designates committee for WMD prevention
Manama: The Cabinet session yesterday designated the National Committee for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons to follow up the Kingdom’s commitments stipulated in the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction conventions and treaties it has ratified. This is until the establishment of an independent commission entrusted with following up all topics related to the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and means of transporting them.
The session, chaired by Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, was also informed about the periodic report prepared by the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction.
The Cabinet also extended profound condolences to the UAE’s leadership and government on the tragedy of the flydubai plane, which crashed near Rostov-on-Don Airport in southern Russia, leaving all passengers dead. “The Cabinet also extended sincere condolences to the leadership and people of Russia following the tragic accident,” Cabinet Secretary-General Dr Yasser bin Isa Al Nasser said in a statement following the session.
Linking neighbourhoods
During the session, HRH Premier issued instructions to link the new residential neighbourhoods in the villages of Bu Quwa, Jablet Habshi and North Sehla to the sanitary network, and directed the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning to prepare the necessary studies and technical designs and include them within its work plan.
The session then welcomed the Kingdom winning the Arab Gulf Programme for Development’s (AGFUND) Prize for Pioneering Human Development Projects 2014 for Marketing home-made products.
Pact with India
The agreement signed between Bahrain and India on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons, highlighted in the memorandum presented by the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa was referred to the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs to take necessary measures to ratify it.
The session also discussed two proposals submitted by the Council of Representatives on the conditions of the Bahraini sea workforce, and on the establishment of an integrated infertility centre, and approved the government’s replies to them, as recommended by the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs.
