Realty sector urges grace period
Manama: The Real-estate sector committee of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) yesterday agreed to seek a grace period for implementing the recommendations on the updated standard Specifications for Construction Works.
Decision regarding this was taken by the committee during a three-session meeting headed by Dr. Hasan Kamal at the Chamber’s premises to discuss the implementation of updated measures issued by general directorate of urban planning of the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
The committee further added that another meeting will be held with the urban planning directorate to communicate the outcomes and probe the implementation of the recommendations.
Other recommendations include: a specific law for the space and storeys allowed for commercial and investment estates, parking spaces for various residence and commercial estates and flexibility in their entry and exits, improving space speciation in the construction of offices – currently at 70 square meter, reconsidering the regulation on the investment buildings using the ground floor as exhibition areas, reinforcing the regulation and monitoring on investment estates due to the numerous violations.
Bahrain Real Estate Society, Bahrain Society of Engineers, Bahrain Contractors Society, alongside the Chamber’s treasurer and head of the construction sector committee Isa Al Refaei participated in the discussions.
