MP Ali Al Auteesh has yesterday condemned the reported intention of the government to allot BD10m budget to build 4 cricket stadiums in Bahrain. Mr Al Auteesh demanded the government to disclose the truth, as online reports of the construction of the cricket stadiums are moving at full swing.
"The government must react to these reports, and avoid leaving the public opinion disturbed and confused," Mr Alauteesh warned in the statement.
"At the time that the Ministry of Youth and Sport Affairs is struggling to complete the basic infrastructure of the local clubs as well as provide sporting facilities to the youths in the villages, we surprisingly find that the government is heading towards spending such a huge amount for the sake of an unpopular sport in Bahrain and the region," he added.
"It's condemnable that the government is going to shed this sum on a game isn't practiced by Bahrainis given the fact that there is 40% deficit in the general budget of the country and the new austerity policies.
"If the government is true to their orientation of reducing spending, they must cancel such projects which aren't important to the Bahraini people such as building cricket stadiums," he concluded.
