Kidney health awareness campaign launched

Manama : Health Minister Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh has patronized the ministry's marking the World Kidney Day themed "Paediatric Kidney Disease: Prevention and Early Intervention" at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC).

In her speech on this occasion, the minister said the event aims to raise awareness among community individuals, especially parents, regarding how to cope with nephritic diseases and to explain the services provided by the ministry. 

The minister commended the remarkable development in this aspect thanks to the directives and keenness of the leadership on the provision of services to citizens and the efforts of the medical crew which reflects positively and gains citizens appreciation.

She said the ministry undertakes a vast range of activities over a span of two weeks, including a series of lectures and seminars. These activities aim to provide maximum benefit to physicians in terms of benefiting from presented papers, familiarization with latest developments in the treatment of kidney ailments and increasing the awareness of parents regarding ways of coping with such diseases.

In a similar context, Dr. Badriya Al Hermi, pediatric kidney consultant and head of the organizing committee said the celebration of the World Kidney Day which began in 2006 was a joint initiative by the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations. She added that public awareness campaigns have been launched by the Ministry of Health (MoH) on March 1 and will continue until March 15 and will cover schools as well.
