Four American journalists detained for illegal entry
The General Director of Capital Governorate Police announced on Monday the arrest of four US nationals, including one woman. One of the arrestees was wearing a mask and participating in attacks on police alongside other rioters in Sitra. The rioters were dispersed by police in accordance with the law.
The remaining three individuals were arrested at a security checkpoint in the same area. The General Director said all four arrestees entered the country between February 11 and 12, providing false information that they were tourists. At least some of the arrestees were in the country as members of the international media but had not registered with the concerned authority and were involved in illegal activities.
The General Director said the case was referred to the Public Prosecutor and stressed that the police have a duty to arrest anyone engaging in criminal or illegal behavior.
