Arab Women’s tournament concludes

The athletics competitions of the Arab Women Sports Tournament 2016 (AWST) taking place in Sharjah ended on Friday with Basketball, TableTennis and Volleyball continuing as part of the tournament.

In the basketball, Bahrain’s Al Najma club defeated the Emirati Bani Yas Club 74-57, while Sharjah Ladies Club’s (SLC) beat the Algerian Olympic team 80-54, and Jordan’s Orthodox got the better of Qatar’s Ladies Team 55-47. In the table tennis semifinals, Lebanon’s Al Nadawa Al Qatamiya Club beat the Algerian Women’s Sports Club 3-0, while Jordan’s Orthodox Club beat Bahrain Club 3-0 and then winning 3-2 against Al Nadawa Al Qatamiya.

The volleyball competitions saw UAE’s Al Wasl Club win 3-0 against the Jordanian Olympic Club and in the second match, Al Qalamoon Lebanese Club defeated SLC’s 3-0. In athletics, Egyptian Redha Adel won a gold medal in the javelin competition, with Emirati Hanan Ibrahim winning silver and Omani Maha bint Thani the bronze.

In the Heptathlon Javelin, Omani Moudhi bint Abdullah took gold, Algeria’s Katia Meqran silver medal and Egypt’s Asma Mohammed Ali the bronze, while in the 4x400 metre race, Algeria won gold medal, Bahrain silver and the UAE bronze.

In the hammer throw, Algerian’s Zoweina Bu Zowiera clinched the gold medal, UAE’s Wedad Irbahim the silver medal and UAE’s Hanon Ibrahim bronze.

In 5,000 metres action, Bahraini Punto Edaw won the gold medal, Yemeni Nahla Ahmed Ali the silver and her compatriot the bronze.

The 200 metres race was won by Algerian Suhair Bu Ali for the gold medal, Bahrain’s Bushra Sharifa took the silver and Algerian Nadia Ramoon bronze. In another 5,000 metres race, Emirati Mira Al Mazimi won gold medal, compatriot Mariam Sulaiman the silver medal and Yemen’s Intisar Mohsen the bronze medal.

The Heptathlon long jump gold was won by Egyptian Asma Mohammed.
