Mistreatment, torture: SIU receives 17 complaints
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) received 17 complaints last month, ranging between torture and mistreatment claims.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the SIU, the unit has heard statements from 54 victims and witnesses.
“The unit has also questioned 26 suspects, and 28 suspects from the public security forces. Three plaintiffs have been also examined by a forensic doctor,” the member of SIU, Abdulrahman Al Ma’wdah, said in a statement.
“Regarding the follow ups with cases referred by the SIU to the local courts, the unit managed to stiffen penalties issued against members in the security forces accused in connection with torturing an inmate,” he added.
