Drunk Driver Detained Over Deadly Bus Crash

Public Prosecution ordered the detention of a driver pending investigation after a traffic accident in Al Saya claimed the life of a bus passenger and injured eight others.
The Deputy Head of the Traffic Prosecution said the Public Prosecution received a report from the General Directorate of Traffic regarding the collision, which resulted in one fatality and eight people sustaining varying injuries.
Preliminary investigations found that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol and became distracted from the road before crashing into the rear of a bus carrying the victims.
The impact caused the bus to veer off course and collide with the road’s metal and concrete barriers, resulting in one passenger’s death and injuries to eight others.
The Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation, questioned the suspect, and confronted him with the evidence. It ordered his detention pending further inquiries and authorized the release of the deceased’s body to the family for burial.
Investigations are ongoing before referring the suspect to the criminal court.
