Appeals Court Cuts Life Sentence in Cannabis Smuggling Case
One Defendant Gets 15 Years; Other Remains Jailed for Life

The Fifth High Criminal Court of Appeal reduced the life sentence of one defendant to 15 years in a cannabis smuggling case involving 9.5kg of manufactured cannabis hidden inside hair oil bottles.
The court upheld the life sentence for the second defendant, fined both BD10,000 each, ordered the confiscation of the drugs, and ruled that the Asian defendant be deported after serving his sentence.
The drugs were discovered in a postal package arriving from the United Kingdom at Bahrain International Airport. Investigators later arrested the suspects during a controlled operation after tracking the shipment.
During the appeal, the defence argued there was insufficient evidence to prove drug trafficking, but the court upheld the convictions while reducing one defendant's prison term.
