“We Will Not Surrender to the Pain
The loudest voices inside the Bahrain Summer Toy Festival were not those of the children, but of the adults who grew up with Spacetoon.
As Syrian singer Rasha Rizk took to the stage at the Bahrain International Exhibition World over two sold-out nights, hundreds of fans from the 1990s generation relived their childhood by singing every word of the iconic Arabic theme songs that defined an era.
Best known as the voice behind some of the Arab world's most beloved animated series, Rizk performed classics including Hunter x Hunter, Black Cat, and Magical DoReMi, with families and children joining the celebration alongside parents who had waited years to hear the songs performed live.
One of the evening's most emotional moments came during the opening theme of Ana wa Akhi (My Brother and I), when Rizk sang the unforgettable line: "We will not surrender to the pain." The audience erupted, with many singing the lyrics in unison.
Among them was a lawyer Ahmed who said the line had become a personal source of inspiration throughout the challenges he faced on his journey to professional success.
For Ahmed, one of the audience members, the performance was more than a concert—it was a return to childhood. He said the songs instantly brought back memories of growing up with Spacetoon and inspired his passion for drawing the animated characters from the shows.
His latest artwork, however, was not of a cartoon hero but of Rizk herself—the voice behind many of the soundtracks that shaped his childhood.
Ahmed said the characters and songs continue to hold a special place in the hearts of those who grew up during the 1980s and 1990s, proving that the nostalgia surrounding Spacetoon remains as powerful today as it was decades ago.
