Bahrain Condemns Drone Attack on Saudi Oil Facilities, Reaffirms Full Support for Kingdom
The Kingdom of Bahrain has strongly condemned the attempted drone attack targeting oil facilities in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and Riyadh, describing it as a serious threat to regional security, international law and global energy stability.
In a statement, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attack, which involved drones launched from Iraqi territory and attributed to Iranian-backed terrorist militias. The ministry said the incident constituted a clear violation of international law, the United Nations Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 2817, while undermining ongoing efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
Bahrain reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and expressed unwavering support for all measures taken by Riyadh to protect its sovereignty, security and critical infrastructure. The ministry stressed that Saudi Arabia has the legitimate right to defend its territory and civilian facilities in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, international law and the GCC Joint Defence Agreement.
The statement emphasized that Bahrain stands alongside Saudi Arabia in any action it deems necessary in response to the attack, highlighting the deep historical ties and shared destiny between the two Gulf nations.
The ministry further noted that Saudi Arabia’s security is inseparable from Bahrain’s national security, warning that attacks on the Kingdom threaten the stability of the entire region and the interests of its people.
Bahrain also praised the efficiency and preparedness of the Saudi air defence forces, which successfully detected, intercepted and destroyed the drones before they reached their intended targets, preventing damage to vital facilities and ensuring the safety of civilians.
The ministry concluded by noting Saudi Arabia’s longstanding support for Iraq, describing the use of Iraqi territory to launch such attacks as particularly concerning. It called on the Iraqi government to take responsibility for preventing its territory from being used to carry out attacks that threaten regional peace and stability.
