The High Criminal Court sentenced a 54-year-old Asian man to three years in prison, fined him BD1,000, and ordered his deportation after serving his sentence after convicting him of stealing his host’s bank card and withdrawing BD130 from the victim’s account.

According to the Public Prosecution, the defendant stole the victim’s bank card from his home on December 10, 2025, and unlawfully used its PIN (electronic signature) to make cash withdrawals and check the account balance with the intent of fraudulently obtaining money. He was also charged with illegally accessing the information system linked to the victim’s bank account.

Court records show that the victim, a 43-year-old company manager, received three text messages from his bank around midnight notifying him of cash withdrawals totaling BD130. After failing to locate his bank card, he immediately reported the incident to the authorities.

During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from the ATM, which clearly showed the defendant carrying out the withdrawals and checking the remaining balance using the victim’s card. The withdrawal times shown in the bank statement matched the timestamps captured by the ATM surveillance footage.

The victim told investigators that, at his sister’s request, he had allowed the defendant, who worked for her, to stay at his home for five days until he found accommodation.

When confronted with the investigation findings and the CCTV footage, the defendant admitted during police questioning that he had withdrawn the money from the victim’s account.
