Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf has launched an electronic marriage contract service, slashing processing times by 70 percent.
Licensed marriage officials can now complete contracts on smart tablets — from the signing session with the couple and witnesses, through to certification by the Sharia court and digital delivery to both parties.
The overhaul eliminates paper forms, digitises all data entry, and streamlines the user experience end to end.
Ministry Counsellor Dr Mohammed Ahmed Mijbel said the service will roll out in phases, initially to a select group of accredited officials. Couples who prefer a paper copy of their contract may still request one.
The launch is part of a broader government push to modernise public services. To date, more than 1,300 government services have been documented and published, with 800 undergoing active development — informed by citizen feedback through the national Tawasul platform, investor input, and mystery shopper evaluations.
