The United States has completed a third round of military strikes against Iranian targets this week, following what U.S. officials described as another Iranian attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The operation, carried out by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on July 11, targeted approximately 140 Iranian military sites using precision-guided munitions launched from land- and sea-based fighter aircraft, drones and naval vessels.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes hit missile and drone launch sites, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks and coastal surveillance positions. The latest operation brings the total number of Iranian targets struck over three consecutive nights to more than 300. U.S. officials said the campaign was ordered to reduce Iran's ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important maritime trade routes.
CENTCOM added that commercial shipping through the strategic waterway continues despite recent tensions. Since early May, U.S. forces have supported the safe passage of more than 800 commercial vessels and approximately 400 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring ongoing efforts to protect international maritime navigation.
