Bahrain in Talks to Return Formula 1 Grand Prix to 2026 Calendar

Bahrain is holding discussions to bring the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix back to the 2026 season calendar if conditions allow, with early October emerging as the most likely window for the race.

Sustainable Development Minister and Bahrain Economic Development Board Chief Executive Noor Al Khulaif told Reuters that talks are underway to reinstate some of the races that were cancelled this season. While no decision has been confirmed, she said the possibility of Bahrain’s return remains open. Al Khulaif noted that any decision to stage the race would depend on easing tensions between the United States and Iran. She also said regional tourism has largely recovered, with visitors from neighbouring countries—who accounted for around 90% of Bahrain’s 15 million visitors last year—returning to near pre-conflict levels.

Reuters, citing Formula 1 sources, reported that October 3–4 is the most likely date for the Bahrain Grand Prix, placing it between the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku and the Singapore Grand Prix on October 11. Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali previously said the championship is aiming to reinstate at least one of the two cancelled Middle East races if circumstances permit.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Domenicali said Formula 1 would announce any changes to the calendar at the appropriate time, stressing that any decision would depend on favourable conditions. Although he did not specify which race could return, Sky Sports reported that Bahrain is the leading candidate, with a decision expected before Formula 1’s summer break in August due to logistical and organisational requirements.
