Travelling geologist from Poland selling rare ambers

Rare ambers, which are about 50 million years old, are on display and for sale in Bahrain.

A travelling geologist is selling rare ambers at Autumn Fair being held at Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre. Gregory Kociel, from Poland, is selling ambers that he claims are extremely rare.

‘Ambers’ are translucent fossilised resin, which are known for its beauty and are typically used in jewellery.

“Although ambers are available in Bahrain, what makes these particular ambers rare are the perfectly preserved insects,” he said.

“The insects are what adds value. It’s very rare to find. In most places I take them, people are seeing them for the first time. Ambers may be available in Bahrain but the quality that I have and the fact that there are insects trapped from 50 million years ago is a differentiating factor. This may be familiar to many because the movie series Jurassic Park had scenes of insects getting trapped and scientists examining them.”

“I don’t know if I should say it is expensive. It depends on the person. It may be expensive for one person but for others, who have a higher spending power may feel that it is not so expensive,” he said. “It’s interesting how insects that we regard as an annoyance can become a thing of amazement! To be honest, the ambers look good and somehow the insects make it more interesting!,” mused Yusuf, who was a visitor at Gregory’s stall.
