GCC meet stresses key role of educational institutions

The second meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Education of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia discussed strengthening the role of educational institutions in developing the culture of volunteering through the curriculum and student activities, as well as taking advantage of the GCC programme to combat tobacco and drugs in educational institutions.

The meeting, attended by Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education, also discussed ways to strengthen Gulf citizenship values in education and take advantage of the experiences from the Member States.

The importance of promoting school sports also came up in the meeting, which benefits the health of students.

The Education Ministers discussed many educational topics during the meeting, including implementing the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in regard to the educational aspect in order to promote and develop joint cooperation.

This has led to form a committee consisting of agents and Ministries of Education in the GCC, including representatives of the General Secretariat of the GCC and the Arab Bureau of Education in order to put mechanisms in place to ensure that there is no prejudice to the activities of the office and entities while promoting educational work. The Committee will submit the results of its study during March.

The meeting culminated  with the Minsters reaching to an agreement of a proposal from the Secretariat to launch a prize to honour the outstanding Gulf teacher, in recognition for the efforts of the teachers in the educational field.
