Treason: Trial on March 13

The closing arguments in the trial of the General Secretary of Al Wefaq Islamic Society would be heard again, Chief Prosecutor Osama Al Oufi announced in a statement on Wednesday.

The Public Prosecution and the defence lawyers had already delivered their closing statements, but the Supreme Appeals Court has scheduled a hearing again on March 13, according to Al Oufi.

The Supreme Appeals Court had earlier set March 30 to announce its verdict in the case against Salman, who was earlier sentenced to four years behind bars for publicly inciting hatred among a segment of society, insulting the Interior Ministry and inciting non-compliance with the law.

His lawyers as well as the Public Prosecution had appealed the initial verdict, as they were not content with the outcome.  Salman, 49, was earlier referred to trial over public statements he made on several occasions. Among the evidences presented against him were recordings of public speeches between 2013 and 2014.
