Suspect on trial Sunday for insulting another country

Chief Prosecutor Isa Al-Mannai has affirmed that the Public Prosecution has completed its investigations into the case related to the misuse of media networks.

The suspect was charged with misusing media networks to insult a brotherly country, publicly inciting non-compliance with the kingdom’s laws and regulations and openly calling for participating in unauthorised rallies and assemblies.

The defendant was remanded in custody pending his trial by the ninth Low Criminal Court on January 31.

Documents of the case reveal that the Public Prosecution received a report from the Anti-Cyber Crime Directorate indicating the suspect’s misuse of social networks to defame a brotherly country, incite non-compliance with Bahrain’s laws and regulations and call for illegal rallies.

The Public Prosecution then took the necessary measures and arrested the suspect.

When questioned about the defamatory and inciting statements, the defendant admitted to posting them on media networks.

The suspect was remanded in custody pending further investigations, had his mobile phone data dowloaded by the Anti-Cyber Crime Directorate and was referred to the Criminal Court.
