The Kingdom of Bahrain has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional food security as it chaired a meeting of the Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The meeting, held virtually as part of Bahrain's presidency of the 46th session of the GCC, was chaired by The Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture, Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak. It brought together ministers responsible for agriculture and food security from GCC member states, along with Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi.
Addressing the meeting, Al Mubarak said Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, continues to prioritise food security and the sustainability of supply chains.
He said the Kingdom has been advancing national food security strategies by diversifying import sources and expanding strategic storage capacities to ensure the continued availability of food and essential commodities. He described food security as both a national responsibility and a long-term investment for future generations.
The minister also stressed the importance of closer cooperation among GCC countries in strategic sectors, particularly agriculture and food security. He said greater regional integration would help establish a unified Gulf system for strategic storage, improve supply chain resilience, strengthen emergency preparedness and enhance the region's ability to respond to changing circumstances through coordinated efforts.
