Shaikh Salman launches FIFA presidential campaign

The Bahraini contender for FIFA presidency, Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim al Khalifa, who is the current Chairman of Asia Football Confederation (AFC)  is making steady steps to win the presidency of the International Football Federation as the first Arab to assume the helm in order to rescue the scandal-hit prestigious world football governing body - FIFA. He is rivalled by Swiss, French, Jordanian, South African candidates. The FIFA presidential elections are slated for February 26 in Zurich, Switzerland.

Shaikh Salman presented his clear-cut promising election programme aimed to eradicate corruption, revive and flourish the FIFA by dissecting it into two entities: "FIFA Football" and "FIFA Business Management. The first entity will assume the task of sound management of soccer championships and events. The second entity will assume financial, commercial and financial issues management and he wants to act as a non-executive chief of FIFA.

'I believe a non-executive chief of FIFA will be perfect. I will not be an impractical chief, I will be working and available all the time and I will regularly meet with everybody, he said. Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa offers more ideas included in his election campaign as he seeks to seclude marketing from financing to ensure more credibility in auditing and accountability akin to the English and the German premier league to ensure the wisdom of all decisions taken regarding contracts and agreements. Destructing the FIFA from the top down aims to remedy its current snags and to introduce strict control mechanisms that ensure the protection of its organizational structure. He wants the FIFA to be a quality-services provider that features highest professional and ethical standards. He wants to improve the opportunities to minorities. He wants to listen to the voices that are concerned about the overall interest of FIFA.

Shaikh Salman touched on a host of important issues in his statements to European journalists as he launched his ambitious election campaign.
