Shura Committees Examine Child, Sport and Rights Laws

Three Shura Council committees held fourteen meetings during the fourth ordinary session of the sixth legislative term, with members studying a decree-law, a draft law and two proposed laws.

The work was carried out by the Women and Child Affairs Committee, the Youth Affairs Committee and the Human Rights Committee, whose remit also included visits, meetings with public bodies and other groups, talks with guests and experts, and attendance at relevant forums.

The Women and Child Affairs Committee, chaired by Ejlal Bubshait, held five meetings, completed two reports and provided one specialist view to the Services Committee on a proposed law amending parts of Decree-Law No. 7 of 1989 on the practice of human medicine and dentistry.

It also studied a draft law amending parts of the Child Law, issued under Law No. 37 of 2012, drawn from an amended proposal submitted by the Shura Council.

The same committee discussed another proposed amendment to the Child Law, brought by Dr Jehad Al Fadhel, Jamal Fakhro, Dalal Al Zayed and Dr Ali Al Rumaihi.

The Youth Affairs Committee, chaired by Redha Ebrahim Monfaradi, met three times and studied Decree-Law No. 40 of 2025, which amends parts of Law No. 8 of 2021 on sports professionalism.

It also received Brazilian MP Eduardo Nantes Bolsonaro for talks on shared parliamentary interests, including youth and sport, renewable energy, food security and public services.

The committee visited Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club during the eleventh race of the 2025–2026 horse racing season.

The Human Rights Committee, chaired by Dr Mohammed Al Khuzaei, held six meetings and conducted three visits and meetings during the same session.

Its work focused on rights awareness and ties with groups working in the field. The committee held an extended discussion titled ‘Human Rights Under Bahraini Legislation’ to mark the 25th anniversary of the National Action Charter.

It also met the head of the secretariat of the Sub-Committee on Accreditation at the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.

The committee took part in an event held by the Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society to mark Human Rights Day, and attended a National Institution for Human Rights conference on ‘Protecting Children in Cyberspace and Preventive Measures’.
