New Islamic Endowments Body

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued Decree (31) of 2026 establishing and regulating the Council of Islamic Endowments Affairs.

This decree establishes the Islamic Endowments Affairs Council, a new body attached to the minister responsible for Islamic affairs and endowments. It gives the council the independence needed to manage endowments, invest their assets, distribute their income, preserve their properties, and oversee them according to Islamic law.

The decree also defines the council’s structure and powers. It is chaired by the minister, includes at least twelve members appointed by royal order, and serves for renewable four-year terms. Its responsibilities include setting the general policy for the endowments sector, reviewing related legislation, issuing regulatory rules, creating a unified endowments' database, and strengthening governance, transparency, and financial and Sharia oversigh
