The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities announced the organisation of a new cultural event titled “Al-Hayya Biya,” celebrating Bahrain’s rich folk heritage and intangible cultural traditions.
The event will take place on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 4:30 pm, on the beach of Qal’at Bu Mahir in Muharraq, as part of an interactive public programme combining traditional music, storytelling, and heritage-inspired environmental activities in a family-friendly atmosphere.
The initiative aims to recreate the collective memory of place and revive cultural expressions linked to deeply rooted social occasions in Bahraini identity.
Storytelling and heritage
The programme will open with a cultural evening highlighting Bahrain’s folk traditions, featuring stories and inherited customs passed down through generations.
A key segment will include storytelling by traditional narrator Baba Yaseen, who will present symbolic folk tales connected to maritime life, local identity, and the historical relationship between the community and the sea.
The event will also feature traditional songs inspired by “Al-Hayya Biya,” alongside segments focusing on the importance of preserving cultural identity and raising environmental awareness.
The programme will further include contemplative reflections linked to the Day of Arafah and Eid Al-Adha, highlighting spiritual and social values deeply embedded in Bahraini culture.
These elements aim to reinforce the emotional and cultural connection between society and its inherited traditions.
It also reflects broader national efforts to promote cultural identity while preserving the artistic and human dimensions of Bahrain’s living heritage.
