Manama: H.E. Dr. Andreas Iliadis, the ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, conducted a diplomatic meeting with ambassadors of EU member states accredited to Bahrain on Sunday as Cyprus' presidency of the Council of the European Union comes to an end. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani attended the meeting.
Dr. Al Zayani commended Cyprus for its efforts to ensure peace, security, and prosperity during its leadership of the European Council and praised the Cypriot embassy for organising the diplomatic event at the beginning of the meeting. Further, he wished for the Republic of Cyprus to keep growing and developing.
The foreign minister emphasised how the Kingdom of Bahrain and the European Union have a solid and continuously expanding cooperation in a number of areas. He emphasised Bahrain's determination to improve coordination and collaboration with the EU, especially in the UN Security Council while Bahrain is a non-permanent member.
Dr. Al Zayani also praised the European nations' disapproval of what he said were Iranian acts of violence against Jordan, Bahrain, and the nations of the Gulf Cooperation Council. In line with international law and the tenets of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, he applauded the EU's stance for Iran to end such acts and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation.
He emphasised the significance of unified global efforts to put an end to Middle East conflicts and maintain world peace, security, and stability, highlighting the value of communication and diplomacy in resolving regional challenges.
European ambassadors, for their part, reaffirmed their support for Bahrain and GCC nations and thanked the Bahraini foreign minister for attending the event. Concerned about the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, they warned that delays to maritime traffic pose a threat to world food security, energy supplies, and international trade.
