Life term for man in drug case
The High Criminal Court has sentenced a 22-year-old Pakistani to life in prison for peddling drugs in Bahrain in favour of a fellow countryman living in Pakistan.
The roommate of the defendant was sent for trial in connection with the same case but the court acquitted him due to lack of evidence.
The 22-year-old Pakistani man reportedly received heroine from his compatriot, and began distributing it across Bahrain.
A tip was sent to the anti-drugs department at the Ministry of Interior stating that two men were selling narcotic substances and they were hiding them in their apartment in East Riffa.
The duo’s home was raided, and ensuing investigations discovered that the 22-year-old had agreed with the man in Pakistan to sell heroine in Bahrain.
The latter was also directing the first defendant to the customers through the phone. The defendant is said to have been distributing bags weighing seven grams of heroine apiece.
According to court files, his unlawful activity lasted for three months and around 28 bags (totally weighing 970 grams) have been seized at the time of the raid.
The second defendant, aged 36, was tried because he was caught at the same apartment with the defendant. But the court underlined that the provided evidences weren’t sufficient to hold him guilty.
