Bahrain at UN warns: Iran’s actions risk setting dangerous global precedent

Bahrain has warned that the continued actions of Iran could set a dangerous precedent if left unaddressed, with risks of similar behavior being replicated in other regions worldwide.

Speaking during a briefing to correspondents, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of April, Ambassador Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, said the situation should be treated as an issue of international concern rather than a purely regional one.

He stressed that recent Iranian actions and broader regional developments carry security and economic consequences that extend beyond the Middle East.

“Iran’s irresponsible behavior, if left unaddressed, can become a norm that we can see replicated in other regions in the world, and this is something nobody wants to see happen in their region,” Alrowaiei said.

Outlining the Security Council’s priorities for the month, the ambassador highlighted three key areas of focus.

First, he pointed to escalating concerns linked to Iranian actions and their broader regional impact, describing them as increasingly significant for international stability.

Second, he referred to the situation in the Middle East, including close monitoring of developments in the West Bank. He also noted support for ongoing efforts by relevant governance and peace mechanisms aimed at improving conditions on the ground.

Third, Alrowaiei addressed recent developments in Lebanon, stressing the importance of preserving the country’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. He urged continued international support for Lebanese government efforts to maintain stability and prevent the country from being drawn into wider regional conflict.

The briefing comes as Bahrain continues its presidency of the Security Council, with a focus on regional stability and conflict prevention across the Middle East.
