The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and UN Women have announced record-breaking participation in the third edition of the Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa International Award for Women’s Empowerment.

A total of 1,774 applications were received from countries around the world by the closing date of March 20, 2026, marking a significant increase of 571 submissions compared to all previous editions combined.

According to a report by UN Women, this edition has surpassed the first and second editions, which recorded 612 and 591 submissions, respectively.

Among the award categories, civil society organizations led with 792 applications, followed by individuals with 621 submissions, the private sector with 257, and the public sector with 104. Notably, the civil society, individuals, and public sector categories have already exceeded the total submissions of the previous edition.

The strong international response underscores the success of the award, launched by the Kingdom of Bahrain in partnership with UN Women, to showcase programs, projects, and initiatives that advance women’s empowerment globally.

The numbers also highlight the effectiveness of promotional efforts by the SCW, reflecting Bahrain’s leadership in implementing initiatives that support the Sustainable Development Goals.

The next phase will see UN Women begin screening and evaluation in coordination with the international judging panel, leading to the announcement of the final list of nominees.
