Solar-powered lamps, chargers, and portable batteries are flying off the shelves, with many selling out within hours. The rush comes despite the Ministry of Interior reassuring the public that emergency instructions are meant as routine safety guidance  not a sign of real danger.

Stores on Instagram are full of ads for solar lights, portable power banks, and other handy devices that can keep homes running when electricity isn’t available. Shoppers are clearly thinking ahead, choosing practical solutions that can help in power outages or unexpected situations.

A high-brightness headlamp is selling for around BD2.200. Small 22.5-watt solar power banks cost about BD4.4, while larger 20,000 mAh power banks with fast-charging capabilities go for up to BD16.5. Solar floodlights vary in price depending on power, with mid-range models in the mid-teens and stronger units slightly higher. Portable rechargeable TVs, which can run for hours without electricity, are priced around BD159. Small solar fans and lamps are also proving popular.

Even though the Ministry reminds everyone that these guidelines are routine and meant to promote safety, the boom in solar devices is a positive sign. It shows that people are becoming more aware of the importance of planning ahead, using alternative energy wisely, and staying calm and confident in any situation. At the same time, it encourages the use of safe, sustainable solutions that work in daily life, not just emergencies.

Some stores say they can’t keep up with all the calls and messages because demand is so high. The surge in sales highlights how retailers are meeting changing consumer needs while helping households embrace smarter, safer, and more sustainable ways to stay powered.
