The Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) is celebrating the first anniversary of the launch of the Bahraini satellite Al-Mundhir, which entered orbit on March 15, 2025.
The satellite continues to operate successfully, marking a milestone in the Kingdom’s growing space program.
His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Asiri, CEO of BSA, said the launch was a historic achievement by Bahraini engineers and young professionals, adding Bahrain to the list of nations with space capabilities.
“Al-Mundhir is more than a satellite; it symbolizes the ambition, innovation, and determination of Bahraini youth,” he said.
Expertise
Dr. Al-Asiri highlighted that the project aimed to develop national expertise in satellite design, assembly, testing, and operation, forming the foundation of a promising space industry in Bahrain.
Aisha Al-Haram, Head of the Satellite Design and Construction Department and Project Manager of Al-Mundhir, shared key statistics: the satellite passed over Bahrain more than 1,083 times and completed over 5,840 orbits around Earth at speeds of about 7.5 kilometers per second, maintaining stability while capturing images and collecting data.
Al-Haram emphasized that the first year of Al-Mundhir is just the beginning of a more ambitious phase.
Forward
“Bahrain’s space program is moving forward, driven by national talent, clear strategy, and a focus on sustainable development and national security,” she said.
Dr. Al-Asiri concluded by expressing gratitude to the Kingdom’s leadership and all BSA staff, saying: “The sky of Bahrain knows no limits. With determination and God’s help, we will achieve even greater accomplishments in space.”
