RAF Jets Shoot Down Drones Heading Toward Bahrain and Jordan
Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets have intercepted and destroyed two drones heading toward Bahrain and Jordan during defensive air patrols in the Middle East, the UK’s Defence Secretary announced.
Speaking to Members of Parliament, John Healey confirmed that the drones were neutralized during ongoing UK military operations aimed at supporting regional security and protecting allied airspace.
According to the defence secretary, the RAF carried out defensive sorties as part of coordinated operations in the Gulf region.
“The UK is now conducting defensive air sorties in support of the UAE. Typhoons successfully took out two drones—one over Jordan and the second heading to Bahrain,” Healey said.
The operations involved Eurofighter Typhoon jets, which intercepted the unmanned aerial threats before they could reach their intended destinations.
The UK has also expanded its military coordination efforts across the region. Additional Royal Air Force operations specialists have been deployed to more than five countries to assist with coordinating both military and civilian airspace.
Meanwhile, a third AgustaWestland AW159 Wildcat helicopter has arrived at a British base in Cyprus to support regional operations.
The UK’s naval presence is also set to increase. The HMS Dragon (D35) will sail to the eastern Mediterranean in the coming days, where it will join US air defence vessels operating in the area.
The UK Ministry of Defence also released footage showing an RAF jet intercepting and destroying one of the drones during the operation.
The developments come amid heightened regional tensions and increased military coordination among Western allies and Gulf partners to counter aerial threats and maintain security in the region.
