Tel Aviv: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Israel for a two-day state visit, opening a tightly packed round of political and strategic engagements aimed at deepening cooperation between the two countries. The visit is expected to focus on defence collaboration, technology partnerships and a new framework for long-term bilateral engagement.

Soon after landing, Modi was received at the airport by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara Netanyahu. Calling the reception “an honour”, Modi said he looked forward to holding bilateral talks and achieving outcomes that would further strengthen the friendship between India and Israel.

Diplomatic sources said the leaders will work towards elevating ties to a special strategic partnership, a move intended to formalise cooperation in defence manufacturing, cyber security, innovation, agriculture and advanced research. Officials from both sides are also reviewing mechanisms to expand trade and private-sector collaboration.

A key highlight of the visit will be Modi’s address to the Knesset, marking the first time an Indian prime minister speaks before Israel’s parliament. He is also scheduled to meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog and participate in engagements focused on innovation and start-up cooperation.

Alongside the political outreach, defence and security discussions are expected to centre on joint development programmes, intelligence cooperation and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and advanced surveillance systems. Both governments view the talks as an opportunity to align priorities amid fast-changing regional and global security conditions.
