Unity Through Ramadan

From Tunisia to Bahrain: Lessons in unity

"O humanity! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you may get to know one another. Surely the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you. Allah is truly All-Knowing, All-Aware." (Quran 49:13)

This verse reminds us that differences between people are natural, even within Islam. Differences don’t have to divide us they can actually help us understand each other better, build connections, and show respect, especially during Ramadan.

That’s the idea behind the Tunisian program “Where We Meet”, which has been online for two years on YouTube. Hosted by Sheikh Ahmed Salman, director of the Ahl Al-Bayt Center in Tunisia, and Sheikh Karim Shneiba, the show brings together different Islamic schools of thought. It focuses on what unites us spiritual preparation for Ramadan, the rules of fasting, prayers, and ways to strengthen morals and community harmony reminding us that what we share is far stronger than what separates us.

This message comes to life in Bahrain, which last month set a Guinness World Record for having the highest density of places of worship per land area, with 2,577 places of worship per square kilometer. Mosques, churches, and temples coexist side by side, showing a society that welcomes diversity and promotes interfaith dialogue.

“Where We Meet” is more than just a show it captures the true spirit of Ramadan, celebrating shared values and the way communities can come together, just like the vibrant, inclusive society we see in Bahrain.
