Last Call for Girgaoon Tailoring as Manama Souq Fills with Families

The colours of Girgaoon have begun to fill the narrow lanes of Manama Souq, where families move from one tailoring shop to another searching for the perfect outfit before orders close.

With Girgaoon set to begin on the evening of Wednesday, 4 March, mothers and children are carefully choosing fabrics, embroidery and traditional designs, hoping to secure something special before tailors become fully booked.

Tradition

Girgaoon, also known locally as Qargaoon or Al Nasfa, is more than just a mid Ramadan celebration. It is a night of laughter, sweets and neighbourhood visits, where children proudly wear bright traditional clothes and carry decorated bags as they collect treats.

During a tour of the market, The Daily Tribune observed a steady stream of shoppers crowding around tailoring counters. Several shopkeepers said they expect to stop accepting new custom orders by the end of the week, as workshops are already under pressure with preparations for both Girgaoon and early Eid Al Fitr.

Prices for tailoring children’s and women’s garments currently range between BD10 and BD30, depending on fabric and detailing. The thob al nashl, bokhnaq and traditional jalabiyas remain among the most requested pieces.

Reminder

For parents who still plan to tailor a Girgaoon outfit, traders offer simple advice: do not delay. Leaving it too late may mean relying on ready made options instead of a carefully stitched design.

Adding to the festive mood, the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority is preparing Girgaoon themed events along the Pearling Path and across major malls, markets and Ramadan nights throughout the Kingdom.
