Bahrain Awards “Green Factory” Label to 40+ Factories

Bahrain’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce has granted the “Green Factory” label to more than 40 factories. The initiative encourages industrial facilities to adopt sustainable practices, strengthen environmental compliance, and boost the competitiveness of Bahrain’s manufacturing sector.

The program aligns with the Industrial Sector Strategy (2022–2026) and supports Bahrain’s goals in carbon circular economy, environmental and social governance, and low-emission solutions. Factories that meet the criteria benefit from a range of incentives in partnership with private sector entities.

Minister of Industry and Commerce, H.E. Abdullah bin Adel Fakhro, described the initiative as a practical model of public-private partnership. He highlighted that the labeled factories reflect advanced environmental awareness and responsibility, contributing to Bahrain’s national goal of a sustainable and competitive industrial sector.

“The Ministry continues to develop and expand the initiative to ensure the industrial sector is prepared for environmental and economic changes and keeps pace with global supply chain and trade transformations,” said Minister Fakhro.

The “Green Factory” label is a key tool to support Bahrain’s journey toward carbon neutrality. It encourages factories to improve operational efficiency, adopt environmentally friendly technologies, and follow global best practices in sustainable manufacturing.

The Ministry has recently updated the labeling standards to reflect the latest industrial sustainability developments. Updates include a new tree-planting criterion introduced during Bahrain’s Tree Week, as well as standards for industrial waste reuse, renewable energy adoption, environmental and social governance policies, emissions monitoring, greenhouse gas accounting, and carbon capture technologies.

Strategic partners have also joined the initiative. The Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait will provide tailored financing solutions for labeled factories, while KUPA will offer competitive sustainable solutions, including solar energy system installations. These partnerships facilitate the transition from commitment to practical implementation, maximizing the initiative’s environmental and economic impact.

The “Green Factory” label supports Bahrain’s comprehensive sustainability agenda and the Bahrain Blueprint, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2060 and reinforcing the Kingdom’s role in global climate action.
