The Chairman of the Northern Municipal Council, Dr. Sayed Shubber Ebrahim Al-Wedai, described National Environment Day as a key national message aimed at deepening environmental awareness and strengthening the principle of shared responsibility among institutions and the wider community.

Context

Speaking ahead of National Environment Day, Dr. Al Wedai said the participation of institutions from across different sectors reflects a clear strategic orientation toward collective environmental action. He noted that despite varying mandates and objectives, joint engagement signals a unified national commitment to protecting Bahrain’s environmental system and preserving its natural foundations.

Responsibility

Dr. Al Wedai stressed that environmental protection can no longer be viewed as the task of a single authority. Instead, he said it requires coordinated and sustained efforts across government bodies, civil institutions and society as a whole. This shared responsibility, he added, supports the long term preservation of environmental resources and aligns closely with Bahrain’s national vision for sustainable development.

Message

Addressing this year’s official slogan, “We Restore It to Revive It,” Dr. Al Wedai said the theme carries strong educational and behavioural significance. He explained that the slogan promotes a culture of responsibility by encouraging recycling, responsible consumption and the optimal use of environmental resources. Such messages, he said, play a vital role in shaping environmentally conscious behaviour and reinforcing public commitment to sustainability principles.

Commitment

Dr. Al Wedai emphasised that raising environmental awareness is essential at a time when environmental challenges are becoming increasingly complex and interconnected. He noted that informed and responsible behaviour remains one of the most effective tools in safeguarding natural resources.

Action

He underlined that the Northern Municipal Council continues to support this direction through decisions and initiatives that reinforce environmental protection and sustainable practices. These efforts, he said, complement national programmes and contribute directly to achieving the objectives of Bahrain’s national sustainable development project.

Dr. Al Wedai concluded that the council’s approach reflects the Kingdom’s broader commitment to ensuring that development progresses in balance with the protection of the environment, safeguarding natural systems for future generations.
