Bahrain’s Smart Traffic Camera System Begins Recording Violations

The Ministry of Interior has announced that the smart camera system of the General Directorate of Traffic is now fully operational. Since the launch of the system’s first phase, it has already recorded a number of traffic violations, including using a mobile phone while driving and not wearing a seatbelt. The system was activated after ensuring the technical infrastructure is fully ready and capable of operating efficiently under various conditions.

The General Directorate of Traffic emphasized that, to ensure timely receipt of traffic notifications—such as vehicle registration deadlines, driver’s license renewals, and recorded violations—drivers must regularly update their personal information through the “Hakomati” app. This helps prevent violations from accumulating without the driver’s knowledge.

Authorities also stressed the importance of adhering to traffic rules, avoiding unsafe driving behaviors, and practicing responsibility and road awareness at all times
