Manama: A criminal court in Bahrain has handed down a decade-long prison sentence to a foreign national after he was found guilty of possessing large quantities of illegal drugs with intent to distribute. The defendant was also fined BD 5,000 and will be deported once his sentence is completed, authorities confirmed.
The incident unfolded during a routine patrol when security officers became suspicious of a parked vehicle containing the suspect. Upon approaching, police observed signs of nervous behaviour and noticed the man attempting to send voice messages on his mobile phone. When he spotted officers, the suspect attempted to flee but was promptly apprehended.
A search of the vehicle uncovered an unidentified liquid and additional substances believed to be narcotics. The case was referred to Bahrain’s Anti-Narcotics Directorate, which launched a comprehensive investigation. Further search warrants executed at the suspect’s residence led to the discovery of substantial amounts of different drug types as well as equipment used for packaging and consumption.
Investigators later determined the man was part of a broader illicit network, responsible for receiving, storing and distributing controlled substances in exchange for financial gain. During questioning, he admitted to possessing the seized materials, and forensic testing confirmed the presence of psychoactive and narcotic components.
