New York: H.E. Ambassador Jamal Fares Al-Rouaiy, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, participated in the flag-raising ceremony at United Nations Headquarters, marking the beginning of Bahrain’s non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for the 2026–2027 term.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Al-Rouaiy expressed Bahrain’s pride and honour at returning to the Security Council for the second time in its history, nearly three decades after its previous membership. He said Bahrain’s participation reflects a message of hope for peace, security and prosperity, guided by the wisdom of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The Permanent Representative reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to sustaining international peace and security as a shared global responsibility, emphasising the importance of dialogue, cooperation and wisdom in addressing regional and international challenges.
He noted that Bahrain, as the Arab member of the Security Council and President of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council, will work to promote peace through dialogue and coexistence, while upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law and humanitarian values.
Ambassador Al-Rouaiy added that Bahrain will cooperate closely with other Council members to resolve conflicts peacefully, address traditional and emerging security threats, enhance the role of women and youth in peace and security efforts, and strengthen the effectiveness and inclusiveness of multilateral action.
He stressed that the Palestinian cause will remain a top priority for Bahrain during its Security Council membership, with continued support for diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy, and safeguarding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent, sovereign and viable state.
