The Capital Trustees Board on Wednesday agreed to withdraw a proposal to partially redevelop Karbabad Coast, located next to the Fort Museum, in order to carry out further study.

The proposal was submitted by board member Dr Abdulhassan Al Dairi, who said the initiative aims to enhance the area surrounding the historic fort and make the waterfront safer and more attractive for visitors. He explained that the plan is intended to improve quality of life and boost domestic tourism by transforming the site into a more integrated visitor destination. Proposed features include solar-powered lighting, additional greenery along sections of the shoreline, and new seating areas. The plan also highlights support for marine and waterfront activities.

Dr Al Dairi noted that Karbabad Coast holds significant historical and geographical value due to its proximity to the Fort Museum, and has seen increasing visitor numbers from those drawn to the heritage site and scenic sea views.

He added that the proposal includes the installation of concrete and wooden benches, with the possibility of allowing citizens to donate benches for the area, as well as designated rest areas for people using the waterfront.
