The Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones, DANAT, organised an educational event at the Isa Cultural Centre that was attended by a group of students.

The event began with a comprehensive lecture conducted by the DANAT team, which explored the history of Bahrain’s natural pearls, their unique characteristics, the process of their formation, and the methods used for their extraction and examination.

Students also learned about the Kingdom of Bahrain’s pioneering role in the global pearl and jewellery trade and its longstanding efforts to preserve and pass on the nation’s pearl heritage to future generations.

Interactive

Following the lecture, the students participated in an interactive activity that included hands-on sessions designed to strengthen their connection to the rich legacy of pearls and to reinforce their awareness of the importance of this vital sector.

The event concluded with a live oyster-shucking demonstration, allowing students to closely examine the oyster, learn how to open it, and discover the pearls hidden within.

Noora Jamsheer, Chief Executive Officer of DANAT, stated, “The organization of these initiatives is integral to DANAT’s mission of fostering a deep sense of national identity and pride, while introducing younger generations to the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage. It also enables them to engage meaningfully with the world of pearls through enriching educational experiences. Such efforts are essential in cultivating a generation that recognizes the value of Bahrain’s natural treasures and is committed to preserving them for the future.”

Activities

Jamsheer added that DANAT is committed to encouraging and inspiring students to explore the field of pearls and gemstones by integrating them into the institute’s various activities, initiatives and workshops.

This approach reflects DANAT’s dedication to transferring knowledge and expertise to younger generations, ensuring the preservation of Bahrain’s natural pearl legacy, and strengthening the Kingdom’s distinguished global position as a specialised and renowned hub for pearls.
