Bahrain to Witness Final “Supermoon” of 2025 Tonight
Bahrain’s night sky will light up this evening, Thursday, December 4, 2025, with the final supermoon of the year, according to astronomer Mohammed Redha Al Asfoor.
He explained that the event coincides with the full moon of Jumada Al-Akhirah 1447 AH, as the moon reaches its perigee — the closest point to Earth — at a distance of about 357,000 kilometers. The full moon will be visible throughout the night until Friday morning, reaching 100% illumination at 2:14 a.m.
Al Asfoor noted that the moon will appear about 14% larger and nearly 30% brighter than when it is at its farthest point from Earth. This makes it the second closest full moon of 2025, following November’s full moon.
He added that the December full moon is traditionally known as the “Cold Moon,” as it comes close to the winter solstice on December 21, marking the beginning of long, chilly nights. The name originates from Native American traditions, where each full moon was given titles reflecting seasonal changes.
