A push to regularise thousands of Bahrainis on temporary and outsourcing contracts has been proposed by MP Khalid Buanaq, who is urging the government to convert all Bahraini temporary staff in ministries and state bodies into permanent employees, and to give stable posts to Bahrainis hired through labour-supply companies.

His proposal also calls for ending any new labour-supply contracts with private firms.

In a memo attached to the request, Buanaq said many Bahrainis have spent long stretches working either on rolling shortterm contracts or via supply companies, leaving them without steady job security.

Gaps

He wrote that this set-up has also produced clear gaps in pay and benefits among employees doing the same work inside the same government workplace.

The lawmaker argued that converting these workers into permanent staff would improve job security and raise day-today output, and said the move fits government policy aimed at putting Bahrainis first in public-sector roles and backing local staff.

Buanaq said labour-supply contracts have affected unemployment by allowing government jobs to be filled through private intermediaries, rather than being offered directly to Bahrainis looking for work.

Openings Halting the practice, he added, would create new openings for younger jobseekers. He said the proposal seeks to end disparities between staff within the same sections and to support better performance through permanent employment that carries clearer responsibility.
