The centuries old Huwais Spring is moving closer to revival after a third clean up campaign in the past year.
Dozens of community volunteers joined the Clean Up Bahrain Society, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, the Northern Municipality, the Buri Charity Society and partner Durrat Al Muharraq Company to remove accumulated waste from the spring and its surrounding area.
The effort reflects how this natural heritage site is entering a new phase of restoration supported by broad community involvement.
Ali AlQaseer, chairman of the Clean Up Bahrain Society, described the spring as one of the area’s natural treasures and emphasised its cultural value.
Experts trace the origins of Huwais Spring to the Dilmun civilisation, dating back thousands of years.
Remnants of ancient stone structures remain visible at the site which adds to its historical significance.
New chapter
AlQaseer said that a detailed study is already underway to evaluate the condition of the spring and identify the most effective route for restoration. Formal plans will follow once the studies are completed.
The third clean up in a year highlights continuing commitment from government bodies, community groups and private partners working together to protect the spring.
The latest campaign showed how collaboration between authorities, charities, volunteers and private sector partners can support the revival of valued heritage sites.
AlQaseer noted that continued involvement from the community will remain vital to ensuring the long-term protection of Huwais Spring as restoration work progresses.
