Shura Council to Discuss Renewable Energy Law in Upcoming Session

The Shura Council is set to discuss the report of the Public Utilities and Environment Committee during its sixth session of the fourth legislative term tomorrow, Sunday.

The committee highlighted that fostering an attractive investment environment in the field of renewable energy aligns with the global energy transition. Such initiatives aim to ease the burden on the national electricity network while achieving savings in the budget of the Ministry of Electricity and Water.

The committee emphasised that the proposed law seeks to enhance the Kingdom’s capacity to develop renewable and sustainable energy resources. By promoting clean energy production, it aims to reduce reliance on conventional sources such as fossil fuels. This measure also supports Bahrain in achieving carbon neutrality and meeting its emissions reduction targets, reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to addressing global environmental challenges and fulfilling its international environmental obligations.

The report further noted that the proposal reflects the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, as expressed in his directives during the opening of the fourth regular session of the sixth legislative term. His Majesty stressed the importance of focused investment in renewable energy to achieve the necessary independence, safeguard national wealth, and ensure the sustainability of the Kingdom’s natural and agricultural environment.
