Bahrain Reaffirms Commitment to Carbon Neutrality by 2060

Member of Bahrain’s Shura Council and representative of the parliamentary delegation, Hala Ramzi Fayez, reaffirmed Bahrain’s firm commitment to addressing climate change through a comprehensive national approach aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

Speaking during a workshop held as part of the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, under the theme “The Impact of Global Warming: A Parliamentary Call to Protect the Most Vulnerable,” Fayez highlighted Bahrain’s vision to confront global warming as a multidimensional challenge—economic, social, and environmental.

She emphasized that protecting vulnerable communities from the effects of climate change remains a national priority and moral responsibility, aligning with Bahrain’s commitment to climate justice and sustainable development.

Fayez noted that Bahrain has launched several pioneering national initiatives to mitigate climate challenges, including the National Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2060, coastal protection programs to counter rising sea levels, energy and water subsidies for low-income households, and capacity-building projects aimed at enhancing national resilience to environmental risks.

She also underscored the legislative authority’s pivotal role in crafting climate policies that uphold social equity, safeguard vulnerable groups, and promote sustainability. Fayez called on parliaments worldwide to strengthen collaboration and exchange expertise in developing innovative and sustainable solutions to global climate issues.

Concluding her remarks, Fayez reiterated Bahrain’s dedication to continuing cooperation with international parliaments to advance effective environmental strategies that not only protect the planet but also bolster economic and social security, ensuring a safe and sustainable future for generations to come.
