Bahrain fostering environmental sustainability

Bahrain is committed to environmental sustainability, the preservation of natural resources, and sustainable development.

This was affirmed by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, noting that these efforts reflect the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Dr. bin Daina praised His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s initiative to launch this year’s “Tree Week”, aimed at raising environmental awareness and encouraging environmentally responsible practices.

He also commended His Royal Highness’s directive to hold the Innovation in Irrigation Solutions Competition to inspire creative ideas that promote the efficient use of treated water for agriculture and landscaping.

Initiatives

He noted that both initiatives complement Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to build a culture of environmental responsibility and community participation in protecting natural ecosystems and expanding green spaces.

The Minister said that Bahrain continues to advance steadily towards its environmental goals, including doubling the number of trees to 3.6 million by 2035 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, in line with its commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).
