Bahrain Showcases Pioneering Alternative Sentencing Programs to Norwegian Ambassador
Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director General of the Public Prosecution and Alternative Sentences Directorate, welcomed Her Excellency Kirsti Tromsdal, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Bahrain, along with Deputy Ambassador Monica Thorsen, during their official visit to explore Bahrain’s innovative approaches to alternative sentencing and prison reform programs.
At the start of the meeting, Shaikh Khalid extended a warm welcome to the Norwegian delegation, expressing his appreciation for the visit as a reflection of Norway’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation. He highlighted that Bahrain’s alternative sentencing programs form a key pillar of the Kingdom’s broader development agenda, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, including notable initiatives such as the Open Prisons Program.
During the visit, Ambassador Tromsdal was briefed on Bahrain’s pioneering achievements in implementing alternative sentencing measures and open prison programs, which have earned recognition for advancing human rights. The discussions also focused on exploring avenues for further collaboration and knowledge exchange in areas of mutual interest, reinforcing the friendship between the two nations.
In response, Ambassador Tromsdal expressed her sincere gratitude to Bahrain’s leadership, government, and people, praising the Kingdom’s exemplary programs. She underscored the importance of fostering closer cooperation and continued exchange of expertise between Norway and Bahrain in the future.
